What made an impression on people ( about Chris): He is smart which is what most people noticed but more than that people saw that in his life he lived out his beliefs and did not just say them. He also was a mystery which attracted people to him.

Journal: I think he avoided writing about himself in first person was because he wanted to look at his life from a distance to make sure he is telling his story and so it could be shared someday. I think he wanted to look at his life as an adventure so that was his way of writing a true story about himself. I also think it may have been so it didn't seem like he was bragging.

The purpose of chapter four was to show that he would let go of his material stuff ( like his car) to go on the adventure he was seeking. It also showed that what he was doing was a bit risky but it was what he wanted to do so he would do it.

Ronald Franz was a nice guy and was good to Chris. He taught Chris what he knew. He felt close to Chris. He had lost his family so he was lonely and Chris filled the holes in his life. He does have my sympathy because he was alone and he found a grandson in Chris so I felt bad for him when Chris left. I liked how he was kind enough to help Chris without being too pushy.

I learned that Chris hated his father and was very angry about his past. They were both stubborn. His dad wanted to control Chris when all Chris wanted was to be free and independent. They never took him seriously or really valued him for who he was so once he could be broke free and left them forever. I think his anger is justified because his dad tried to control him but I still think he could have been more respectful and perhaps tried to have a decent relationship instead of leaving.
