The author talks about himself for two chapters to show that Chris was not crazy and was just living how he wanted. He was showing that there are other people who have done similar things.
I did not like his interjections. I thought that they were distracting from the plot.
My reaction was that it was interesting to know that the author knew what he was talking about because he had done something similar.
His life relates because they both did not get along with their parents and so they both went into the wild to find themselves.
I do not agree with Edwards I think climbing is a good activity and that it is not a psycho neurotic tendency. It can become one depending on who and how they choose to do it.
I don't think he is defending Chris. Chris is psycho neurotic because he risked his own life to go on the adventure.
